2019-2020 Highlights
An Annual Report of the CTE Resource Center, Serving Career and Technical Education in Virginia
For the Record
CTE Resource Center records show that in the past 38 years, since 1982-1983, the Center has
- distributed more than five million curriculum documents
- conducted more than 2,300 searches for patron-requested information
- developed more than 3,300 curriculum products
- facilitated or presented to more than 2,550 groups, addressing more than 49,000 educators and business/industry representatives.
Reach
The Center connects with teachers, administrators, and others through social media (Twitter and Facebook) and quarterly emails that describe ongoing activity.
Distribution
In June 2020, the Center's website suffered an unrecoverable data error that affected all of our systems, including Virginia's Educational Resource System Online (VERSO), which was used to distribute the CTE curriculum frameworks and resources. As a result, the Center completed its 2019-2020 curriculum revision and publication process by making curriculum frameworks and resources available as PDFs for the 2020-2021 school year.
In-service Programs
In 2019-2020, the Center presented or facilitated 53 in-service programs and workshops to approximately 585 people. Forty-two meetings of business/industry experts and CTE teachers were held at the Center to create or update rigorous, relevant curriculum frameworks.
The Center also conducted presentations for school divisions and for Virginia Department of Education professional development and training sessions. The Center exhibited at eight CTE teacher conferences.
Meeting Facilities Use
During 2019-2020, the Center hosted 36 meetings. Approximately 365 business representatives, state CTE Advisory Committee members, administrators, school counselors, teachers, and students attended meetings at the Center. Facility use was curtailed in March 2020 with the closure of educational facilities due to COVID.
CTECS
The Center managed Virginia’s 2019-2020 program initiatives with the Career and Technical Education Consortium of States (CTECS). The year’s work continued to focus on the 21st Century Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth and the completion of instructional resources for each of the competencies.
Curriculum Development
From July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, the Center completed 92 products in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Eight new courses in the Energy Career Cluster were developed, along with an elementary-level Career Exploration course.
