- locating the appropriate service resources (e.g., diagnostic procedures, flow charts, wiring diagrams) on paper and in an electronic format
- understanding different terminology and format of the service information from one manufacturer to another
- troubleshooting problems using wiring schematics and manufacturer troubleshooting charts.

- What basic troubleshooting steps can be taken to correct an engine performance problem, even though the software may be different?
- What tools are available outside of manufacturer guidelines? How can these be used to help solve problems?
