New CTE Library Resources Celebrate Work as a Source of Life Enrichment
Two authors who have found meaning in their lives through work are featured in books now available at the CTE Resource Center library.
Jeff Henderson wrote Cooked: My Journey from the Streets to the Stove to tell the story of his successful rise from the streets of South Central Los Angeles and prison to release and eventual success as an executive chef, public speaker, and mentor to at-risk youth.
In Shop Class as Soulcraft: An Inquiry into the Value of Work, Matthew Crawford builds a powerful case for the enduring value of the manual trades, from his position as a degreed philosopher and the owner of an independent motorcycle repair shop in Richmond, Virginia.
A third new book, The Essential Employee: The Adventures of Carmen Senz, illustrates how Carmen, a fictional entry-level employee, uses the techniques of REACH (Results, Enthusiasm, Attitude, Cooperation, Honor) to gain respect, recognition, and personal satisfaction in her job.
New to the AV section of the library is Dress and Groom for the Workplace, a 30-minute DVD that emphasizes why appropriate clothing and grooming are essential components of workplace readiness. It focuses on dressing for success in offices as well as blue-collar work environments and provides tips for creative shopping methods to find appropriate clothes on any budget.
