Virginia Guides Win National Awards

The Association for Instructional Materials (AIM) has presented the Center with an Award of Excellence and an Award of Merit for its work on behalf of the Virginia Department of Education in 2008.

Receiving the Award of Excellence was the School by School Model: Guide for Planning and Implementing a Schoolwide Improvement Initiative. Produced by the Center in cooperation with the Partnership for People with Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia Department of Education, the model offers a research-based process and tools for improving schools to the benefit of all students.

An Award of Merit was granted to the newly revised Family and Consumer Sciences Exploratory I, II, III instructional frameworks. These middle school courses provide students with a foundation for managing individual, family, career, and community roles and responsibilities.

The AIM Awards Program is held annually to recognize outstanding instructional materials developed for use in planning or conducting a career and technical education program as defined in the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Education Amendments.
